Tower

A Tower can be either a large or a small building, most build near the Intel to defend it. Grey Stones are commonly used, because this colour is the default setting. It may be also smart to build with green as it can blend in with the landscapes.

[edit] Small Tower

Small towers, also known as sniper towers, are usually built by snipers to provide a good vantage point. Most of these towers are rather small and only a few blocks tall, built atop a hill or mountain to provide a clear, unobstructed view overlooking the battlefield. The interior of these towers are small and have only space for the player who built it. This is an example of a small tower (around 50 blocks have been used):

Notice how the builder made some stairs to get on a higher level and having a greater field of view:

This is the construction manual for a simple small tower:

However, keep in mind that such blueprints do not need to be followed to the letter. There is of course room for improvisation and improvement, and the basic design can be implemented in a number of different ways.

[edit] Long Towers

Long towers are great buildings, made for much more players then the small tower. If there are enough players in the tower, it is very hard to defeat this tower, because of their great field of view, the position of the tower (commonly near the Base for ammo restocking) and many players, they can focus on every enemy they meet, no matter how many of them are coming.

[edit] Construction Tips

It is always best to build towers floor by floor, going up. On each floor, build up 2 high walls so you are safe from all threats, and then you can work on the inside. After building 4 block high walls, carve out holes to shoot at the opposing team. It is sometimes smart to add supporting beams to your structure so that it cannot be easily griefed or destroyed. Create a room inside the tower where there are no holes so no one can shoot at you for recovery or safety.

To see the inside of the tower easier, use bright colors to indicate stairs and floors, as it is easier to see.

[edit] Strategy for destroying towers

[edit] Small Towers:

Towers can be easily destroyed by spading or shooting the foundations of the towers, these foundation blocks are what hold the tower up right. If these blocks are mined, the tower instantaneously falls to the ground leaving no blocks behind. Example:

As of the 0.60 patch, the SMG has also become a desirable and effective way to disable small fortifications, it takes 4 shots to destroy a block with the SMG. The rifle takes 2 shots, the Shotgun however takes 1 bullet. Simply firing at the supporting blocks will result in a collapsed tower quicker than if mining, but players should be advised that this approach chews through ammunition fast.

[edit] Large Towers / Castles

Very, very hard to destroy. It's important to come with teammates to destroy these buildings. Also keep the building empty from enemies or they will shoot at you! This could take a lot of time to destroy, so remember: Only destroy those towers/castles that are annoying and always killing you/your team mates, or towers/castles that are near the enemy Intel. It's good idea to destroy the building from the inside to avoid getting shot at.

(Note: A few servers consider this griefing, even though you're not destroying your own team's buildings.)

[edit] Benefits

  • Elevated position offers greater sniping opportunities
  • Offers basic protection from other snipers

[edit] Drawbacks

  • Can be time-consuming to build
  • Often are easily destroyed by the enemy or griefers
  • Simple window means your position is quickly identified from your tracers
