The rifle is one of Ace of Spades' primary weapons. Believed to be inspired by the powerful infantry rifles of WWI and WWII, the rifle is both powerful and accurate. The rifle is based on the US M14 Semi-Automatic Rifle. The M14 rifle, formally the United States Rifle, 7.62 mm, M14, is an American selective fire automatic rifle firing 7.62x51mm NATO (.308 Winchester) ammunition. It was the standard issue U.S. rifle from 1959 to 1970. The M14 was designed to replace the famous American World War Two Weapons, The M1 Garand and the M1 Carbine. Originally the rifle was the only firearm in Ace of Spades; however since beta 0.58 players now have the option of selecting the Submachine gun and the Shotgun as alternatives.

[edit] Firepower

The rifle is capable of killing instantly with a headshot, doing 49 damage (three hits to kill) with a body shot, and doing 20 damage (five hits to kill) with an arm or leg shot. Before the beta 0.54 update, the rifle was always 100% accurate. However, the rifle does have some spread now. While the rifle is a semi-automatic weapon, its rate of fire is faster than most semi-automatic rifles at 120 rounds per minute (now 60 rounds per minute in .76). Its limited magazine also makes sustained fire underpowered, and in most situations the rifle is far more effective when used as if it were a semi-automatic weapon. The rifle holds ten rounds in its magazine and has 5 magazines in all.

[edit] Iron Sights

A picture of the rifle's ironsight

The rifle can be either shot from the hip using the cross hairs, or aimed using the iron sights. This does not affect the accuracy of the weapon. Aiming down the iron sights causes the camera to zoom in, magnifying targets at long range and making them easier to see. There is a trade off though, as it'll obscure a large portion of the screen with a silhouette of the gun and reduce the field of vision, as well as reducing movement speed. Players have different preferences for when and how often they use the iron sights in combat. From Beta 0.40 and onwards, iron sights can be modified. By editing the default "Iron Sights" in the game folder labled "png", you can increase your chances of more kills. For example, the default ironsights are of a M14 rifle. But if you change it to just a scope view iron sight, you will be able to see more of what is around your target.

[edit] Visibility

The rifle is fairly noisy, giving off a distinctive sound when fired and reloaded. Every fired bullet leaves a telltale yellow streak, making shots easily traced back to where they were fired from. Flying bullets can also be seen for a split second. However, players cannot see shots fired behind them, and no muzzle flash is produced when the rifle is fired.

[edit] Destruction

Blocks can also be removed using the rifle. Two shots will destroy a single block. This can be used for taking down badly supported structures (such as narrow bridges, towers, and crenelations) from long range, as well as to whittle through heavier defenses over time. With proper co-ordination, it is possible to pin an enemy behind cover with volume of fire, while destroying the cover they are hiding behind and killing them immediately after it disappears.
